Sutton Community Works started as an informal gathering of Sutton & Cheam churches as part of Soul in the City in 2004 and grew into a charity out of which operates six projects.
Our aims have always been to encourage churches in the borough and aid them in putting their faith into action through initiating projects in response to local needs.
A safe, fair, healthy, flourishing community in Sutton where people are connected and able to know and enjoy fullness of life.
To be a thriving, diverse and active Christian Community, partnering together, bringing positive transformation to the London Borough of Sutton, linking local churches, the local community and key decision makers, identifying needs, mobilising people of Christian faith to serve the community through our projects.
Local Churches Working Together
We currently partner with 19 churches across the Borough, see a list and map of partner churches.
Projects Director Mark Tomlinson has led the charity since its foundation in 2010. Mark arrived in the borough in 1998 to lead an Ichthus Church called Carshalton Christian Fellowship which met on the St Helier estate.
In 2005 Mark together with local churches set up Sutton Street Pastors and in 2009 after seeing the local needs Sutton Foodbank was born. School Pastors was initiated at Greenshaw High School in 2012. Mark is a lynch pin between the church community and the civic community in the London Borough of Sutton sitting on a number of key forums with external partners. His passion is to see churches across the borough working together to make a difference.
